ODF Alliance Workshop

The Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the ODF Alliance hosted the 2nd International ODF User Workshop on 9-10 October 2008 in Pretoria. The first ODF Workshop took place in Berlin in October 2007.

Government representatives from, Belgium, United States of America, Malaysia, India, Brazil, United Kingdom, Germany and South Africa attended this workshop. The majority of these international governments are either actively considering how best to utilize an open format to preserve access to documents and increase choice of software for governments and citizens, or have already adopted the open document format as a standard.

Two major software companies that participated were Novell and Sun Microsystem.


Topics discussed were:

·      Implementation and Migration – Lessons Learned & Best Practices

·      Interoperability – Adherence to ODF, Implementation Guidelines & Test Suites

·      ODF 1.2 – Metadata, Spreadsheet Formula, Digital Signatures and More: What’s New with ODF

Applications Support – Thinking Inside and Outside the Office Productivity Suite
