XML  Standards in Government Workshop



ctThe e-Documentation workgroup of the Presidential National Commission on the Information Society and Development hosted an open workshop titled “XML standards in Government on 17-20 June 2008. The meeting targeted all government institutions to learn and contribute to the ongoing development of open XML standards to ensure effective service delivery. The objective was to consolidate the work done on the adoption of XML standards in the public sector and to prepare the strategic direction for future work on the development, adoption and implementation of information standards to further enhance service delivery. Some hundred delegates attended the workshop.

The meeting, the first of its kind in South Africa, attracted both nationally and internationally representatives. It brought together experts, academia, and government architects, local and international companies.


The three international guest speakers Patrick Durusau, Rob Weir and Steve Pepper were the main draw cards to the workshop. They shared their expertise and wide range of experience in open standards. The three guests are recognised for their passion to advocate open standards in government.
